Covering Your Tracks – 2

This weeks CYT is an example of how a relatively small change can make a huge difference in not only the sound of a particular song, but the meaning derived from it. Exodus recorded Ac/Dc’s ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ as a bonus track for their Tempo of the Damned album.

Exodus’ cover stays, for the most part, true to the structure of the original. It is also similar vocally. The big change comes from the amped up bass, and crunchy, metal guitars. Where the original is a bluesy, grinning, tongue-in-cheek track, the cover is a seething, flashing-teeth, fist-pounding revenge anthem. At least that’s how it sounds to me, what do you think?
