Covering Your Tracks – 14

Back in 2000 I was working overnights in a dark attic-like part of an old Wal*Mart. Luckily there was a radio to help pass the tme- even though it only picked up one station. One night I heard this song and was hooked, and couldn’t wait to hear it again. It was one of the most unique covers I’d ever heard. To me, it’s probably one of the most unique covers ever made.

The track was the cover of “Boyz-N-The-Hood” by Dynamite Hack. The song was originally recorded by DH for a rap tribute album, and subsequently released on, and as the first single of, the album Superfast. DH’s cover takes a song with a statement and turns it on its head. Really, the ridiculousness of a bunch of suburban white dudes waxing about the harsh streets says it all, and gave more power, at least IMHO, to the original.
